Principal's Message

Whittier Elementary School is a wonderful place to learn. Our teachers and support staff are the BEST! We are “Wizards at Teaching and Learning!” Our kindergarten through fifth grade school is located in the central Long Beach area on Walnut Avenue between 17th Street and Pacific Coast Highway. Whittier Elementary School provides our multiethnic and multilingual student population with a strong instructional program. We provide multiple interventions to ensure that all of our students are successful learners.

High expectations for academic achievement are coupled with the right of students to a safe and orderly school environment. Students receive educational experiences which utilizes a variety of resources, and a high degree of teacher and student interaction. Parents are encouraged to be involved in parent conferences, monthly “Coffee with the Principal” meetings, parent-education programs, and special activities. We welcome our parents and neighbors to become involved in our school community.

Students at Whittier School have a sense of belonging within the school community. Every one of our students knows they are loved and supported. Every student is encouraged to formulate and accomplish goals, recognize the purpose of learning and its application in daily life, and develop high-level thinking skills. Our incredibly talented teachers facilitate instruction so that all students are engaged in learning.

Every student's education is a joint responsibility and partnership between parents, students at school staff. Whittier School prepares students to be lifelong learners. In addition, our emphasis on attendance, character education, academic achievement, problem solving strategies, and our focus on higher level thinking skills make us a school parents and the community can feel proud of.
